SWEET HOME CHICAGO
OUT + ABOUT
We are located on the South Side of Chicago in the historic Hyde Park neighborhood. Hyde Park is home to the University of Chicago’s educational campuses and our hospital system, as well as storied museums, architectural jewels, delicious restaurants, miles of public lakefront trails, and the future Obama Presidential Center.
With easy access to downtown Chicago, residents are able to take advantage of all the city has to offer. Chicago boasts 29 public beaches, eight major sports leagues, 100 unique neighborhoods, and over 7,300 restaurants. It’s no surprise Chicago has been named “Best Big City in the U.S.” for six straight years.
EXPLORE HYDE PARK
It was the site of the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, home to former President Barack Obama, and an incubator for Nobel Prize winners — basically, history is made in Hyde Park. The Chicago Sun-Times takes you on a tour of Hyde Park, including where to eat, drink, and shop.
At the forefront of health equity.

The COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the longstanding structural drivers of health inequities on the South Side of Chicago. Early in the pandemic, our community experienced high case rates and case fatality rates compared to the rest of Illinois and the United States as a whole. 42% of the community delayed medical care as a result of the pandemic and over 55% experienced some loss of employment since March 2020.

UChicago residents are able to make a larger impact than their peers at other institutions because of the incredible struggles facing our neighbors. Residents gain hands-on experience both in the OR and in the community, working to solve the medical, emotional, and mental needs of Hyde Park and the South Side of Chicago. Use your hands, your training, and your voice as a physician to make real change.
